Gearing up for a Hackathon

Last week, I registered for a hackathon that mintbean.io is hosting. It sounded fun and was promoted by Flatiron school. I was not able to attend the orientation since I had to work, but I checked out the website later. The challenge for the hackathon is to build a card game using a standard 52 card deck.

The game must be as least as complicated as War and can be a full stack app or frontend or backend only. Projects that pass the requirements will be sent on to hiring managers that Mintbean is working with.

I looked around at different tutorials to get started on this project. It’s due in a couple of days so I might not be able to complete it, but I would like to at least start it.

I found a tutorial on FreeCodeCamp that seems to meet most of the requirements.

Phaser and Vue will make up the frontend, while Socket.io will be the backend. I have not used these technologies yet, so this will be a great learning experience all around. That is, if my wi-fi holds up. It went out last night for some reason and really threw a wrench in the works.

Hopefully my next post will be about completing the project for the hackathon.
